From Jaun, the route descends through Charmey and follows a gentle path through forests, hills and river valleys until it reaches the city of Fribourg. In Im Fang, wood is everywhere: timber, chalets, stacked gabions filled with stone – a landscape shaped by mountain living. On the way to Charmey, cows graze quietly on steep pastures. The Montsalvens lake lies hidden behind thick vegetation, while the forest feels ancient and raw. Signs warn of falling rocks. Once past the Jogne gorges, the scenery softens: lush fields, dairy herds, and the sweet promise of double cream and Gruyère cheese. A detour to Gruyères or the Cailler chocolate factory in Broc adds flavour to the journey. Then, bridges and paths follow the lake to Tentlingen, crossing the Gérine on a quiet plateau surrounded by hills. From afar, Fribourg rises like a city above the countryside. A few more bridges, the murmuring Gottéron and finally the broad Sarine lead to the heart of the bilingual medieval capital.
