Rougemont – Ciernes-Picat – Château-d’Œx

From the village center, the path climbs through the village in direction of la Forcla and over La Pieraille, a small pass. The route then descends toward the Manche Valley, crossing the river of the same name, and forking left along the hillsides of various pastures. The route then joins a small path over the steep, rocky banks of Ciernes Picat stream. Follow the stream to the road. Walk along the road to the Ciernes Picat hamlet, then cross the stream. Climb toward the alpages (alpine pastures/farms) overlooking the valley, alternating walking on the road and on forest paths. The route borders several alpages, some of which produce L'Étivaz AOP. Hike over the pass where the route forks left on the road then meets up with a pedestrian path. The path descends through pastures and forests, dropping along the Laitemaire crest to Bossons. From this neighborhood, follow the main road to the center of Château-d’Œx.

Alpage Pâquier Gétaz

This alpage or alpine farm is run by one of the 61 L'Étivaz AOP producers in the Park. It offers cheese-making demonstrations. From June 10th to June 31st and from September 15th to October 10th, when cows graze the mountain pastures, the cheese-maker himself/herself can be found making cheese over a wood fire each morning. The cheese is then aged for several months in the L'Etivaz cheese cellars, under the careful watch of the L'Étivaz AOP alpine cheese producers cooperative.

Attention: the dates above may change, please contact the alpage for more information.
