Château-d’Œx (960 m) – L’Etivaz (1140 m), distance: 13 km, walking time:  5 hrs 30 min;  5 hrs 15 min

This stage of the trail runs along the foot of the Gummfluh and its imposing rocky slopes, through La Pierreuse nature reserve and into the L’Étivaz valley. The surrounding landscapes are rugged and majestic, dotted with screes, mountain farms and prairies littered with rocks. The trail offers panoramic views that stretch from the Pays-d’Enhaut and the Vaud Alps to Les Diablerets and as far as Les Rochers-de-Naye.

Itinerary

From Château-d’Œx, walk down the path that runs along the left side of the colline du temple until you reach the main road. Cross this road and continue to walk downhill as far as the Sarine river. Here, cross the Pont Turrian (suspension bridge) and take the path that forks left. Continue to walk along the left bank of the Sarine until you reach the road. Turn left and walk a further 500 metres. Turn right twice before starting your ascent along the along the banks of the Gérignoz river. After 2.5 km, take the path on the right and walk uphill towards La Case. Before the Col de Base, turn left and walk along the path leading to la Douve. Finally, continue down the winding road until you reach L’Étivaz.

Notes

Dogs are not allowed in the La Pierreuse nature reserve.
At Col de la Douve, walk to Plan de la Douve (10 minutes) and enjoy a short rest in the meadow.
